Traditional hair and skin uses

In many South Asian households, mustard oil is warmed lightly and massaged into the scalp or used as a pre-bath skin softener. These practices are cultural traditions — not substitutes for medical treatment.

Before you try it

  • Patch-test on the inner arm for 24 hours.
  • Use a pure, food-grade or clearly labelled cosmetic oil.
  • Discontinue if redness or itching appears.

Hair massage basics

A small amount warmed between palms can be worked into the scalp with gentle pressure. Wash out thoroughly with shampoo; mustard oil is rich and may need two rinses.

Skin notes

Some people enjoy a thin post-shower layer on very dry elbows or heels. Avoid broken skin and the eye area. This content is general wellness information only — not medical advice.
